Jakarta (ANTARA News) – The role of the mass media in the process of communication is often seen by many as being both beneficial and dangerous. But as a whole, mass media actually only mediates between the interest of the government and that of the people.
If the interest of the government is catered to by the media in its reports to the people, it is seen as a friend. But at other times, when the mass media criticizes or attacks a government policy, the mass media concerned is regarded as an enemy.
The role of mass media as a social watchdog often makes those in the power elite allergic to the press, News Director Metro TV Station Suryopratomo said here on Tuesday.
